Exploring the fullest extent of watercolour

Kate Bedell Watercolour Artist

Biography

Kate Bedell is an accomplished artist who works primarily in watercolour. Born in Dublin, Kate graduated from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art and Design with a distinction in Fine Art and has been evolving her craft for 30 years. She seeks to explore the fullest extent of watercolour and her techniques have evolved through her experimentation and love of the medium. She incorporates collage, such as translucent layers of lace paper, to add further dimension to her mixed media paintings and shapes a story through her art. Early in her career, sunflowers emerged as a signature theme, a symbol of the warmth and life that she evokes in her paintings.

She has exhibited in the R.H.A. Annual Show and the Mall Galleries, London. In 1999 she appeared twice on the Channel 4 Programme, “Watercolour Challenge”. She taught watercolour painting to adult classes in Dublin before moving to India with her family in 2000 for 7 years. There she painted a series of exhibitions of Indian Women and held several solo shows, as well as teaching in two international schools at Primary level.
